Ukrainian borsch is one of the most popular dishes of Ukrainian cuisine. Its unique taste qualities made it the famous throughout the world. Borsch has many forms and ways of cooking. In various regions of Ukraine it is cooked in different ways, but there is a general recipe for a traditional Ukrainian borsch.The compulsory composition of borsch is beet, which creates a special taste and color of the dish. The structure of borsch, except beet, usually consists of products such as cabbage, carrots, parsley, potatoes, onions, tomatoes (or tomato puree), as well as apples, beans, squash, etc. All these products can be purchased in any Ukrainian store.
Ukrainian borsch is mostly cooked on the bone or meat-and-bone broth. You can also cook soup on mushroom broth or chicken broth. To make borsch specific sour taste there is added kvass raw, juice, pickled beets, beet leaven (extracts), etc. to the broth.
Different versions of borsch are often named according to the area, from which it originates: Volyn, Kiev, Kirovograd, Poltava, Chernigov borsch and others. The particularly popular Ukrainian borsch is widespread today not only across Ukraine, but in many countries around the world. The unsurpassed taste of borsch is reached due to almost twenty food products included in its composition. Ukrainian borsch and Ukrainian clothing compose the Ukrainian folk traditions and history.
April 5, 2010 is the day of the 300 years since the adoption of the Constitution of Ukraine by Hetman Pilip Orlik. This document was issued 77 years before the U.S. constitution and 81 year ahead of the Polish constitution. April 5, 1710 P. Orlik was elected the hetman of Ukraine. On the same day, in Bendery (now Transdniestria, Moldova) there was proclaimed the "Pact and Constitution rights and liberties of Zaporozhian Troop", which later became the name - the Constitution by Pilip Orlik.
On the Independence Square in Kiev was held flash mob, dedicated to the 300 anniversary of the Constitution by Pilip Orlik.
This year the April Fool's Day in Odessa will be celebrated with carnival procession through the streets of the city, with championship of high-speed-eating fish, karaoke, entertainment, contests, concerts comedians and pop stars.Festival “April Fool's Day” starts on 1st of April at 10:00 with the grand opening of the exhibition of caricatures “Smiles without Borders”, which will be held on Primorskiy Boulevard. The official opening of the theatrical festival starts at noon on Deribasovskaya Street. Here, from 13:00 to 14:00 will be held the championship of speed eating pf stuffed fish.
According to the organizers, the degree of fun of eating fish can be compared only with the performance of karaoke. Competing in this kind of creative the participants will be able on the same Deribasovskaya Street from 12:00 to 15:00. Then from 4 to 6 p.m. Odessa citizens and visitors can watch or participate directly in the carnival procession, which takes place on the streets Sadovaya, Deribasovskaya, Richelieu and Kulikovo Field.
Attention will be paid also to the youngest "Comedian" - from 11:00 to 13:00 in the city park will be “Yumorinka” for children with entertainment and contests designed for the younger generation.
The final part of the festival will start at six in the evening - on the Kulikovo Field will perform “95th Kvartal”, Potap with Nastya Kamenskih, band “Para Normalnyh”, “4 Kings”, “D. Lemma”, “Tartak”. The fest ends with the fireworks.
Feast of the Entry of the Lord into Jerusalem (also often called the "Palm" Sunday) is celebrated one week before Easter, on the sixth Sunday of Lent.The holiday is named in honor of the meeting of Jesus Christ, according to Christian tradition - God’s Son, entering Jerusalem celebrating palm procession. As the palm trees do not grow everywhere, the inhabitants of middle and middle latitudes use other plants instead of palm branches: in Ukraine - willow, Germany and other European countries - willow, juniper, beech, pear, apple.
Easter is one of the most favourite holidays of Ukrainian people. This holiday is associated with religiond as well as with the happy mood. There is hardly anuone who doesn't celebrate Easter. The other reason of popularity of this holiday is the end of the Great Lent! It was forbidden for people to eat some products and now the ban is over! So there are the mass festivals and celebrations.
By the way, the weather on Easter in Ukraine is always the same - in the morning it's rather cold, but then the sun heats up the earth and favours the mass picknicks and simple walkings. Why is it cold? Because traditionally people go to church to bless the food, so they need to show their staying power and desire to enjoy the life, so the heaven experience them))))

At the Market Square in Lviv was opened the Easter Fair, where was presented a festive Pysanka (Easter egg) with the height 4,2 m. According to the press center of Lviv city council, this egg will become a symbol of Easter in Lviv.
Director of Fair Igor Finyak noted that Easter Pysanka was created by about 10 craftsmen from the Jaworowski district, they covered the metal frame with vines, adorned it with flowers.
At the fair, which runs through April 11, Lviv citizens and guests will be able to buy all the necessary attributes for the Easter celebrations.
Also there will be held a charity auction by participation of the Center for guardianship of orphans, master classes in Pysankarstvo (Easter egg painting) and Pysanka making of papier-mache.
Admirers of works of the German composer Johann Sebastian Bach had the opportunity to attend the lectures, devoted to the 325 anniversary of the composer, which took place in Odessa House Museum of Rerikh in 14th of March. The joint project was prepared by the museum and Odessa society in name of Rakhmaninov, and the lecture on the works of the composer read Svetlana Malysh - the teacher of Odessa College of Arts and Culture by K. F. Dankevich.
Johann Sebastian Bach is considered to be one of the greatest composers. During his lifetime he created more than 1000 works. In his works there are presented all important genres of the time, except for opera; he summarized the achievements of musical art of the Baroque.
On 22 of March the football trophy will arrive in Donetsk within the framework of the World Tour of the Football World Cup. From the airport it is to be brought to "Donbass Arena", where it will stay for three days. According to the official website of Shakhtar Football Club, on 23rd of March representatives of the media will see the football cup, and on 24th of March everybody is invited to "Donbass Arena".

The largest in Ukraine biscuit-cream cake in the form of “8” was produced in Kharkov within celebration of International Women's Day. The weight of the cake-record holder - 700 kg, biscuit - 280 kg, cream - 200 kg, sugar - 140 kg. Weight of ornaments, which were used in this cake - 80 kg. Almost fifty confectioners of four confectionery firms worked at the creation of cake.
Representatives of the “Record Book of Ukraine” registered the Kharkov confectionery miracle in the section “Cooking”- as the greatest “8”, made from a biscuit-cream cake, and gave the organizers the corresponding certificate.
Each visitor has received from the organizers the present - box with part of a unique cake, for the family celebrations of 8-March.
